Lance is contemplating a rushed trip to Brisbane to join the homeless campers and assist in stabilising their campsite. He states: "I will fly up if someone can donate return flights as I have to be in Sydney friday night
I applaud the statement of Greens councillor Jonathan Sri and thank him for his position.
The Lord Mayor needs to understand that these people are neither chattels to be stored nor cattle to be herded. His direction of them to live in jail-you-pay-for hostels is plainly unacceptable to those who remain.
I challenge the mayor of Brisbane to live a fortnight in the institutions he pro offers at the rent they charge with the rules they impose on the income they receive. Marginalised people are not tokens for the City of Brisbanes NGO allies to make money with.
The problem is that Brisbane has failed to plan for universally affordable housing and I urge the Lord Mayor to come up with an acceptable alternative or leave them where they choose to be."
