We are fortunate that most people in our country are normal people. That means, we are not physically disabled, we are heterosexual, we do not believe in Father Christmas and we do our best to look after those less fortunate than us, as well as ensure that they all enjoy equal rights.
We design and manufacture wheelchairs for Jordon Steel-John, we buy a wedding cake for Penny Wong and we sympathise with Tony Burke and his Great Abrahamic Religion fetish. But if we want to survive as a species the focus must remain to be normal. No matter how inclusive we are towards anything that does not fit the norm, we must never set the target to be abnormal.
The problem is some of our politicians do not see it that way. Jordon Steel-John tells us emphatically, to the standing applause of the whole senate, that the era of the normal people is over. Suffice to say, there is reason to be concerned about the sanity in our government.
Israel Folau quoted a simple verse directly out of the Bible and the whole country gets its knickers twisted. The Bible, the bedrock of our constitution, confirmed with prayers at each parliament session, yet it is controversial to read it, or for god’s sake even quote it?
Surely all normal people do believe that there is something awfully twisted in our government. If we don’t like what’s written in the Bible, then for heaven’s sake just scrap it and don’t blame people for reading it.
Our government is following the same senseless, masochistic, medieval and self-destructive path as most European countries do, rather than progress our society towards more normality.
There are ways of doing things better and we should open our minds towards them. One priority must be to preselect political candidates based on their subject knowledge, rather than just based on a loud mouth and a wheelchair.
There are examples of countries that put their candidates through a thorough and extensive training program before they qualify for preselection. Eric X Li describes such a process eloquently here in his TED talk, well worth listening to:

China, like all other countries rose from a rather dismal human rights record into a country that is today more determined than most to progress towards a better future for all people, with a highly dynamic government that continually adjusts its constitution to offer better living conditions.
When they were faced with a massive increase in Islamic terrorist attacks, where innocent civilians were senselessly butchering to death, they took real action and tackled the root cause of the problem, rather than pussyfoot around the never-ending appeasement program that most western countries have adopted.
The result is just staggering, contrary to the snowflake propaganda that we are exposed to, the majority of Uyghur people do in fact welcome the program of turning barbaric primitives into respectable, employable, normal people. Consequently, Islamic terrorist attacks in China have completely stopped. Tackling the root cause of the problem is the only successful option. China does not have a problem with religions, they allow everybody the right to pray to their chosen god in privacy whenever they like to, as long as they don’t cause a public nuisance. But unlike Australia, China does not allow criminals to form fundamentalist political organisations who assume the right to force their religion onto their children and other people.
It is time that we adopt the same definition for “Freedom of Religion” and secularise our government whilst developing a thorough training program for all future political candidates.
