The Mental Health Act has had some interesting changes over the past few years. Imparticular, the right to basically do what anybody wants, including detaining you for up to six months because they (the government) decide to. Furthermore, the Magistrate involved in your case has the ability to keep adjourning your matter for trial, to see whether you are compentant or not to leave the facility, for up to two weeks at a time ... If the Magistrate decides that this would be in Your Best Interest.
We are truly sick of this Phrase "In the Persons Best Interest", because that would be what the person themself wanted / asked for, not what somebody else decides they want for them. Particularly when we are talking about a government who has such an attrocious track record of looking after persons that they literally snatch into their care. Now they make all the legislation to say it is legal, without any legislation there to make anybody accountable should they choose to abuse their position.
There are literally thousands of people being held captive in Australia, under the guise of the Public Guardian and the Department of Community Services. Their money is taking by the Office of the Public Guardian, in which they then charge the person a fee to "look after their money", and they are then imprisoned in the confinement of the choice of the medical professionals involved at the time.
You would think that the Tribunals involved with these matters were there to ensure utmost integrity with all people under the so-called care, however that is completely wrong and furthermore, they do conspire with the Public Guardian to keep the lid on the abuse suffered by people held in these facilities "for their own good".
The government and NGO's make millions, probably billions of dollars a year keeping these people confined. And when we say billions, do not forget that the mental health professionals, if that's what you can call them, lawyers, and those sneaky "Not for Profit" organisations are all getting a piece of the pie. No wonder there are so many kids and adults going missing each year from their families, I mean who would want to lose that pot of gold by returning people to their rightful place, or just letting them be. Nobody would be making any blood money.
